If It Walks, It's Food.

Nic wants me to talk about...

Food: Indian or Japanese

I think she's worried that neither country has food. I'm not sure why since both are experiencing technological booms and the like. Japan's got vending machines that distribute ladies' skivvies and India likes to help me reset my router while calling me ma'am. With that kind of modern day know-how comes all manner of food. So I think that answers that.

But if one is to delve into specifics of what each country eats...and turns it into a contest - well there's only one winner...and that's lamb.

The Japanese (as far as I know) don't cook with lamb. Or curry. And in the end...that will be their downfall. That and the giant squid that will devour the entire island. You know it's going to happen.

Still...I love me some sushi. Except unagi. It's slimy. Used car salesman slimy. But in your mouth. This is coming out wrong.

In other news, I was excited to read that The Time Traveler's Wife was going to be turned into a movie. I don't know why I was excited. Hollywood's ruined every novel post Gone With The Wind...I don't see what this should've been different. And according to this article, it won't be. I don't know where this sudden burst of hope came from. Must be some residual hope leftover from the Obama campaign.

Actually - I know where it came from. It came from seeing the trailer for Where the Wild Things Are. It's Obama-style hope with a dash of Spike Jonze pizzazz. And it looks like it spilled over. Damn.

So anyway, I shared the above article with my mother...the bestower of one of the only modern fictional love stories that didn't make me want to urp with the turning of each page and she had THIS to say regarding the ending change brought about by the happy ending neediness of the focus group:

Who's got time to be in a test audience? A bunch of idiots.

I think I speak for all of us (general public) when I respond with..."so true".

But to stay on (or rather return to) the point - at the end of the day Japanese food still wins, as I will most certainly be getting sushi before I get tikka masala if for no other reason that it's a refreshingly cool meal in this heat.

But come winter...no lambs are safe. I don't care how cute they are.

Only you could put together so many unrelated thoughts and somehow make it sound semi-coherent.

I love me some unagi rolls. I had a spicy eel green dragon roll last week: tuna and unagi inside and rolled in avocado with a spicy eel sauce. it was NOMZ.

Oh I love unagi! And I thought we were always on the same page...

Japanese wins hands down! Even the baby loves sushi! (Ok, mostly he just eats gyoza and avocado rolls)

I don't know if I've ever had lamb...on purpose. You know those gyro stands at street fairs and county fairs? I've had those and their supposed to be made of lamb...but I have my doubts.

This is a brilliantly informative post. You flit from one topic to another like a hyper-intelligent butterfly. Tikka masala is not an authentic Indian food, but a sauce invented by British-Indian chefs for the Anglo-Saxon palate. You were obviously aware of this in your ironic reference.

Way to jump around and then bring it together in the end! I don't do sushi but I will eat lamb very occasionally. I'd like to see the movie, but maybe I should read the book first. That's usually always a good idea!

Never had sushi; the inclusion of seaweed to me makes it sound like it'd all be bukkake slimy.

The Greeks also know their way around a lamb... wait, rephrase that. The Greeks know how to Cook and Prepare lamb to Eat. Gyros, even though they pronounce it wrong.

For the record, squid don't eat Japan - Japanese eat squid... and it does not have to be dead. (Ask Amy about her story... (do so on an empty stomach, by the way).

Ohhh, I'm all a twitter waiting to hear Amy's story about squid... ((digits wiggling in the air))

Does your mind work like your posts?

Just wondering.

rachel - what's NOMZ?

erin - we don't want to become one of those boring couples that likes all the same thing.

goranas - your sarcasm makes my eye twitch. tikka masala may have been made to assuage the palate of the pasties, but it would have been done so by those inhabiting the country using the local spices, n'est pas? burritos weren't a staple of the mayan diet, but it doesn't mean it's not the best damn thing on the menu at a mexican restaurant. so...suck it. cuddles.

ms salti - i love lamb but i veal makes me sad. is that weird?

woozie - oftentimes the seaweed is the least slimy thing about sushi. come to the west coast some day and we'll do fish.

dad - the ancient greeks prolly did know lamb in the biblical sense...but yes, i think the modern day greeks handle it better.

sue - it's my step-sister amy, not the amy you know. not to say it isn't still a fantastic story...i just don't know it.

Regarding Rachel's "NOMZ" -- think Cookie Monster eating cookies. I can't believe I have to explain an internet meme to you. I'm not even on Facebook, for Flying Spaghetti Monster's sake.

I think you're wrong about Japanese not having curry. For some reason I thought they did have their own version of it, but perhaps I'm full of bull honkey. No one knows, except the Japanese. Those crazy, crazy Japanese.

I have nothing to say beyond the quote I already inadvertently gave you and I don't know that I'm going to be able to bring myself to see this movie. It would be like watching an entirely different story, not the one I know. OK, forget that part about not commenting.

Mmm, sushi. Sushi and Asahi beer. Mmmm. I love a bit of used car salesman in my mouth.

The Time Traveller's Wife actually looks not too shabby!

Are you going to make fun of me if I say that I almost cried when I saw the 'wild things' preview... I'm so excited! It looks like they're going to do a great job with it. And I am so craving sushi... I've never had slimy unagi though... I think you need to go somewhere new...

OMG.... I have never sat here and questioned my love for sushi as opposed to my love of anything curry. This feeling is strange. I feel so torn.

Wow, there are way too many links in this post! No, I will not deal with it OR suck a lemon.

Japanese only wins in the health arena. But if you want the best flavors and combinations of meat and carbs on the entire planet...Indian takes it.

I don't even consider it a competition.
