Rent Is A Racket

That's really all I had to say about that.

I'm sorry I haven't been blogging. Work has been sucking my will to blog. The new abode is coming with internet, however (Kansas won't live without it, bless his OCD heart), so I'll finally be able to actually spend some time on my posts. Maybe this will improve the quality. Yeah, I thought that was a funny sentence too.

There's been all sorts of things I've wanted to write about this week. Can't remember any of it now. I'm currently broke. Haven't been broke in a while, but the scooter, the apartment, the upcoming vacation plans and the occasional evening out have brought me to a level of mid-college poverty I haven't seen since, well, college. I've begun to buy ramen again. It's come to that.

In other news...The Office brought me to tears last night. Any of you watch that show? Granted, it will never replace the British version, but Steve Carrell has wormed his post-Daily Show way into my heart. Last night it was all about the sumo suits. If no one watched it, then I'm sorry...but I hate you.

Today I don't really have much to say. I'm just posting because Laura threatened me. You might wonder why I am intimidated by a 98lb, size 0 waif of a sister. Well I have four words for you...
her wedding reception video. Enough said.

Happy Friday

I saw a few episodes of the American version of The Office and was very impressed. If it hadn't followed the British version I think it would have been a hit in its own right.

Sugar Kansas Daddy has a nice ring to it. Sugar Kansas Daddy.

i don't get to watch the american version of the office here...I wish I could. I looove Steve Carell.

Meanwhile, I'm also at the ramen-buying point after buying all sorts of toys for my camera. Oops.
Luckily, it's fucking cold here so the sodium filled broth is lovely and warm! :)

But Kara, you looked so cute banging your head into the wall sconce. It's good to know it's saved for posterity. Besides, you should listen to your big sister. Don't you love it when I respond?

Yes, listen to your waif of a sister whose wedding video you blessed with your comical drunk-speech-giving, head-into-wall-sconce-knocking antics (I vow to post that to YouTube one of these days...priceless, it is); more blog posts!

Whatever Lola wants...

Laura, you have to post that to YouTube. Must!

When I was a broke student I ate porridge a lot. Some weeks I ate more oats than a spoilt pony. But I wasn't a spoilt pony. I was a poor human. The other thing I ate was lentils. I bought a big sack of them from an Indian shop at the beginning of term and boiled them nightly for months, ringing the changes with a tomato here and there or a bit of rosemary and perhaps an onion there. I was poor but I was happy. (A lie.)

I was so poor I lived on 6 pounds sterling worth of food a week. That's true.

I was so poor that I got beaten up by a gang of desperado church mice, for 10p and a lentil.

I was soooooo poor I had to skulk around ERs and fashion crude shoes out of other people's old band-aids.

This is kinda fun for me! Cathartic, ya know? I was soooooo very bleedin' poor I sold my forehead as ad space to a discount carpet centre.

I challenge you to a poor-off, Kara! Let us meet at an appointed place at dawn and battle it out with rusty shopping trolleys.

PS. A diet of porridge and lentils is surprisingly satisfying and for roughage is second to none.

Seriously.

I like Steve Carrell and it's not b/c we attended the same college. He's hilarious...but I haven't seen The Office yet. Not even 1 minute of it.
Oh and you can make more $ by delivering newspapers with your scooter.
Isn't or wasn't your Governor practicing poverty?

goranas - that's quite a long title for him. it will take some intialing to fit on a polo shirt

macoosh - sodium is like candy, isn't it. sigh.

laura - you will die...you hear me? die.

sam - i was so poor in college that the cockroaches staged an intervention...they were afraid i was anorexic.

ax - i didn't know that was something you could practice...poverty i mean...but i suppose that makes perfect.

oh, and future - we're no longer speaking.

I must add that Orwell's "Down and Out in Paris and London" was my fav book in high school. That's all I have for now.

Sam, Problem-Child-Bride said...

Huh. Well I was so poor in college the cockroaches staged a convention. I was tied down, Gulliver-like, and forced to watch as they devoured my last few oatflakes and washed it down with tiny bottles of Perrier. I'll never forget it and so I took a train and, for a time, wondered around a ravaged Southern landscape crying "As God is my witness, I'll never be hungry again!" Over and over. All round the greater Charleston area.

I also had to take a boat for that last bit.

I'm sorry but I think The Office in the US has surpassed the original. The British version is incredibly depressing.
